list of domain extensions, make money parking domains
In what may herald an explosion of new domain names that will greatly increase the list of domain extensions in use, the Paris-based Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann), voted unanimously to approve new guidelines for formatting domain extensions. Currently, there are now around 20 address extensions that follow the dot, not including labels for countries such as .it for Italy, .de for Germany and so on. The change in formating domain extensions opens the door for a greatly expanded list of domain extensions, for instance. sports or .space, and even .xxx for adult-oriented sites, something for which Icann has been lobbied almost since the inception of the Internet. The new list of domain extensions could make it easier for computers to route information to the appropriate sites, and it could lead to more people who make money parking domains because there will now be more domain names to park and auction off. While there are technical limits to how big the Internet can get, technological advances should enable this new list of domain extensions to be put into use without slowing the Internet down appreciably. I think this is one of the most interesting developments on the Internet in a long, long time.
